About

Profile

I practise law — and write about where it's going.

I'm an advocate and attorney, admitted to practice in India and New York. My work runs across commercial litigation, domestic and international arbitration, and real-estate transactions and disputes — for start-ups and closely held companies, developers, and foreign parties.

I founded my practice, Novo Legal, in 2024, after two years as Additional Standing Counsel for the State of Odisha, where I appeared before the Orissa High Court and assisted the Advocate General in matters that reached the Supreme Court of India. I began my career as a judicial law clerk to Justice A. K. Sikri at the Supreme Court of India, working on constitution-bench matters including the challenge to Aadhaar.

I hold an LL.M. from Columbia Law School, where I was a James Kent Scholar, edited the Science and Technology Law Review, externed at the Knight First Amendment Institute on free-speech litigation, and trained in appellate advocacy at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, under Judges Michael H. Park and Gerard E. Lynch. Earlier, I advised a Member of Parliament on India's Personal Data Protection Bill.

I treat a brief and an essay as the same task: find the real question, then answer it plainly.

I write, often, about technology and the law — data, privacy, platform regulation, and the constitutional questions that come with new technology. My essays and op-eds have appeared in The Hindu, The Indian Express, Scroll, The Wire and on leading law blogs. I work in English, Hindi and Odia.
